Unlocking Comfort and Joy for Homeowners
When my wife and I bought our home in 2017, we had such grand dreams of joyful living. Fast forward four years, as two working parents with three young children, our dreams had given way to just making the house work for us. Sticky doors, aging faucets, clogged gutters, leaking sprinklers, and very few pictures on the walls continued to irk us every day. With no free time to invest into our home (not to mention skill), and more negative vendor experiences than I can count, we agreed there had to be a better way. Enter Honey Homes.
Honey Homes’ mission is to increase comfort and joy for families by eliminating the hassle of home improvement and maintenance. We are uniquely able to deliver on that mission by aligning our success with what homeowners want: trust, quality, and availability. Our membership model provides members with a primary, locally-based handyperson who regularly visits to knock off their home projects and ongoing maintenance needs. The Honey Homes app lets them manage their to-do list, book appointments, and chat with our expert team at any time. We also offer creative perks that make living easier, such as quarterly box breakdown (for all those delivery boxes that inevitably pile up) and services you’d like but probably never get around to booking (such as window washing or holiday light hanging).
We’re able to deliver this exceptional homeowner experience through our amazingly talented handyperson team. Unlike other home services, our handypeople are full-time Honey Homes employees, enjoy comprehensive benefits, and visit the same members regularly. This stability and continuity enables them to focus on completing high-quality work while building strong relationships with homeowners, their families, and their homes. In turn, Honey Homes invests in our team’s growth. We launched Honey Homes University in 2022 to help our handypeople further develop their technical and member service skills. This growth unlocks the opportunity for career and compensation growth, the pillars of long-term job satisfaction and employee retention.
As with any startup journey, it’s amazing to reflect on our progress. In July 2021, Rory O’Connell, Katie Pham, Richard Neal, Avantika Prabhakara and I started building Honey Homes. We onboarded our first members within 45 days. Two years later, we’ve completed over 20,000 home to-dos through more than 10,000 handyperson visits. Over 500 members across the San Francisco Bay Area and Dallas bring our team into their homes every month. Our team has now grown to over 40 best-in-class tradesworkers, engineers, and operators.
Today, I’m excited to announce that we’ve raised $9 million in Series A funding, led by Khosla Ventures. This brings the total funding we’ve raised to over $12 million, including participation from Pear VC, Teambuilder Ventures, and Moving Capital, along with DoorDash co-founders Tony Xu and Stanley Tang, Lyft co-founder Logan Green, Opendoor co-founder Eric Wu, and Mercury co-founder Immad Akhund, among others.
With this new funding, we are focused on improving our service and technology offerings, accelerating member growth, and expanding into new markets.
This is an exciting time for Honey Homes, and we cannot wait to unlock comfort and joy for more homeowners nationwide!
If you’re energized by our mission, come help us! We’re hiring for key roles and always interested in speaking with exceptional folks.
