Our Story: Why We Believe in the Joy of a Happy Home
For many homeowners, home projects and maintenance tend to spiral into a never-ending todo list. Finding reliable tradespeople is hard, and coordination is time consuming. When emergencies come up, urgent assistance is difficult to secure and often more costly than expected. Based in Lafayette, Honey Homes replaces this stress and uncertainty with turnkey convenience so you can kiss your stress, and your to-do list goodbye.
Created for busy homeowners, Honey Homes is an innovative membership service that pairs a dedicated handyperson with each household. Fully employed and vetted by Honey Homes, this handyperson manages everything from minor upgrades to regular maintenance tasks, all coordinated through an easy-to-use app.
Handypeople complete tasks ranging from caulking to furniture assembly to minor plumbing and electrical work. You can add specific tasks to Honey Homes’ smartphone app as they come up and book visits with a few taps. For larger jobs requiring a specialist, Honey Homes can gather quotes and coordinate the work through their trusted vendor network.
Vanti Prabhakara, who formerly led homebuyer marketing at Trulia and Opendoor, founded Honey Homes with her husband, Vishwas. She says, “When we moved to our ‘forever’ home in Burton Valley, we had a vision for our home. Between finding trustworthy vendors and the time it took to manage the back and forth, we landed with a long wishlist of to-dos. Finally, after an irrigation specialist took a hefty deposit and disappeared on us, we knew there had to be a better way. As a result, Honey Homes was born.”
Vanti says she can’t stress enough the importance of maintaining your home. “Just as you go to your primary care physician for wellness checks, your home needs regular checkups too. Seemingly benign things have a sneaky way of becoming costly hazards.” There’s a set of tasks that Honey Homes recommends to help avoid costly future repairs and extend the life of your appliances. Some of these include vacuuming out your dryer vents once a year, cleaning your refrigerator coils regularly, and swapping out your air filters quarterly.
To ensure their handypeople have the stability and support they need to thrive, Honey Homes employs them as W-2 employees. They also provide comprehensive health benefits, PTO, parental leave, and professional development opportunities.
When Vanti’s not running Honey Homes, she enjoys her time as PTA president at Burton Valley Elementary School. As a former captain of the Princeton tennis team, you can also find her at Rancho Colorados playing tennis with her three sons.
Vanti’s advice is to actively enjoy the amazing community we have in Lafayette by befriending neighbors, learning from one another, and making memories in your homes together. “We are so grateful that our community has welcomed Honey Homes with open arms, and look forward to doing our part to make it even stronger.”
